Nurture Yourself: How to Avoid Burnout and Find Balance
It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day stresses of life and forget to take care of ourselves. We often put our own needs last, and before we know it we’re feeling burnt out. In this blog post, we will discuss how to avoid burnout and find balance in your life. We will talk about how to nourish your body, mind, and soul, and how to feel good in your own skin. So sit back, relax and let’s get started!
Nurture yourself. Don’t just eat, NOURISH
What does it mean to nurture yourself? It means to give yourself the time and attention you need in order to feel your best. This may include eating healthy foods, getting enough sleep, taking time for yourself each day, and avoiding stressors when possible. When we take care of ourselves, we are more productive and our minds and bodies function better overall.
Don’t just rest, RESTORE
Rest is important, but it’s not the only thing that helps us recharge our batteries. It’s also crucial to restore our energy by doing things that make us happy. This could mean spending time with loved ones, going for a walk in nature, practicing meditation or mindfulness, or simply taking some time for ourselves each day. When we do things that make us happy, we feel more positive and energetic.
Don’t just breathe, BREATHE LIFE INTO YOUR SOUL
Breathing is one of the most important things we can do for our health and well-being. Not only does it help us to stay alive, but deep breathing also helps to oxygenate our bodies and calm our minds. In order to get the most out of your breathwork, try to focus on your inhalations and exhalations. When you do this, you are able to connect with your body and mind in a deeper way.
Don’t just stretch, FEEL YOUR BODY MOVE
Stretching feels good, but did you know that it’s also good for your health? Stretching helps to release tension in the muscles and joints, which can improve flexibility and range of motion. It’s important not only during exercise but also after physical activity or sitting at a desk all day long. You don’t have to do anything fancy; just take some time each day to stretch out those tight spots!
When we move our bodies mindfully, we are able to connect with them on a deeper level. We can feel the muscles and joints stretch and contract, and we can become more aware of our breath and the way our bodies move. This type of movement can be calming and energizing, and it’s a great way to get in touch with your physical and emotional selves.
There are many different ways to move mindfully. You can walk in nature, dance to your favorite music, or do yoga or Pilates. Whatever you choose, make sure to focus on your body and your breath. Pay attention to how the movement feels, and let go of any thoughts or distractions. When you move mindfully, you will feel more connected to your body and your mind.
Don’t just avoid, ACKNOWLEDGE
Acknowledge, name, and witness (feel) those feelings.
It’s natural to want to avoid uncomfortable feelings. However, this can lead us down a path of avoidance and numbness that doesn't serve our needs in the long run. A better approach is naming what you're feeling and then allowing yourself time to process it without judgment or self-criticism.
There are many different ways to name and feel our feelings. We can write in a journal, talk to a friend or therapist, or use meditation or mindfulness practices. One thing that helps me is naming my feelings out loud or writing down how I feel on paper before trying anything else. Sometimes this is all you need! Other times though we may want more support from friends/family members or even professional help such as counseling services which are both great options for coping with strong emotions or emotions that cause us distress. When we express how we feel openly and honestly, it can be freeing and healing. It also helps us connect with ourselves and others in a deeper, more authentic way.
It may seem counterintuitive, but avoiding our feelings can actually make them worse. When we name and feel our emotions instead of running away from them, they lose their power over us (and eventually go away). Try it next time you feel anxious or sad: acknowledge what you are feeling and give yourself time to process those emotions before doing anything else. You’ll be amazed at how much better you feel after doing so!
Conclusion
When we take care of ourselves, we are more productive and our minds and bodies function better overall. When we feel good about who we are as individuals, it’s easier to be happy with the people around us too! Take time daily for self-care so that you can live your best life possible.
Nurture yourself by giving your body the attention it deserves. Get plenty of rest and relaxation so that you have energy for whatever comes next…dance around like no one’s watching because nobody cares about them anyway (except maybe their mom).
